realme launches the UK’s cheapest 5G phone at just £179

realme, the world's fastest-growing smartphone company, has announced the arrival of its cheapest 5G phone in the UK, which will be available from the 20th May, for a limited-offer price of just £179, which will increase to £199 when the offer ends on the 23rd May.

The new realme 8 5G is the first of the 5G phones in the UK to feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G processor, a 7nm chipset that supports 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby, octa-core processing, and – according to MediaTek – also delivers up to 30 percent greater coverage thanks to 2CC carrier aggregation.

Most affordable 5G phone

Realme has called its new phone  “the most affordable 5G smartphone in the market”, with the realme 8 5G 64GB version priced at £199, with an early-bird special offer of £179. And for those looking for more storage capacity, there’s the realme 8 5G 128GB, which is priced at £249, with an early-bird special offer of £229 (early-bird offers run from May 20th to May 23rd).

The realme 8 5G has a 5000mAh battery, supports the 18W type-C quick charge, and  features a Fast Side Fingerprint Scanner, as well as a new Dynamic RAM Expansion Technology (DRE), which converts storage/ROM into virtual RAM. And for those looking for a decent camera, the realme 8 5G comes with a 48MP Nightscape Camera, made up of a 48MP Ultra HD Main Camera, a portrait lens, and a 4cm macro lens; with a 16MP front selfie camera.
