UPDATE: Samsung's Galaxy S10 5G is finally available in Australia, exclusively from Telstra. You can find out how much it will cost and how fast it can download in the updated article below.

If you've been eagerly awaiting the release of Samsung's most advanced flagship, the Galaxy S10 5G, you're in luck – Australia's first 5G handset is now available exclusively from Telstra.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G offers a slightly larger Infinity-O display than the Galaxy S10 Plus, measuring in at 6.7 inches. It also factors in an additional 3D depth-sensing camera, bringing the S10 5G's lens total to six.

Of course, the real draw here is the phone's ability to access 5G networks right out of the box, which allows for incredibly-fast download speeds on Australia's rapidly-expanding 5G networks.

As only the third country in the world to launch the Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung and Telstra celebrated the occasion yesterday by holding a public test of the device's 5G download speeds at Telstra's Customer Insight Centre in Sydney.

Setting a staggering benchmark of what we can expect from Telstra's 5G network (and 5G in general), the Galaxy S10 5G managed to reach download speeds of over 1.2Gbps – more than 10 times the speed offered by top-tier consumer NBN connections.

“We have started rolling out 5G in 10 cities around Australia," said Telstra Consumer Executive Kevin Teoh. He continued, "over the next 12 months or so we expect our 5G coverage to increase in area almost five-fold and reach into at least 35 Australian cities.”

Very nice. How much?

In terms of pricing, Telstra announced that the 256GB model Samsung Galaxy S10 5G will be available on its XL consumer and small business lease plans for $144 per month on a 24-month plan (minimum cost: $3,456).

That comes with 160GB of monthly data at full, uncapped 5G download speeds, after which Telstra's 'Peace of Mind Data' kicks in, capping download speed at 1.5Mbps with no additional charges.

Additionally, eligible Telstra customers who picked up the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus earlier this year will be able to trade in their handset for a brand new Galaxy S10 5G at no additional cost. Better be quick though, as the offer must be redeemed within 21 days of the Galaxy S10 5G's release.

Samsung's Galaxy S10 5G is exclusive to Telstra and is available in Majestic Black with either 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage, and Crown Silver in the 256GB variant.
