Samsung has announced three new Galaxy A series phones: the A52, A52 5G and A72. The A52 5G is the only one of the three that offers 5G support, with the other two working on 4G LTE. It costs less than the A72 and interestingly, only the A52 5G is available in the UK, costing £399.

The trio of phones were announced on Wednesday via a streamed Samsung ‘Unpacked’ event, touted as bringing "awesome to everyone" due to their affordable pricing.

“Cutting-edge innovations, services and features at an accessible price.”

“Samsung strives to give consumers what they want and need most. That’s why we set out with a vision for the Galaxy A series to democratize Galaxy innovations for everyone,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

“The Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72 encapsulate the Galaxy brand philosophy with cutting-edge innovations, services and features at an accessible price,” continued Roh.

5G phones aren’t usually cheap, if you want one packed full of features, but the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G certainly offers a lot for its modest £399 price tag.

The 6.5-inch A52 5G packs a 4,500-mAh battery, which Samsung say will last two days, 25-watt fast charging and an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

Featuring 4K video, four rear-facing cameras: 64-megapixel wide-angle, 12-megapixel ultrawide, 5-megapixel macro and a 5-megapixel depth camera with 10x digital zoom, as well as a 32-megapixel selfie camera, the A52 5G’s camera offering is strong.

The A52 5G’s scene Optimiser uses AI to shoot with optimal settings for 30 categories of images and backgrounds, including food, landscapes, and pets. It comes with optical image stabilisation, a night mode feature and even ‘Fun Mode’, developed with Snapchat, which uses the camera’s integrated AR lenses for Emojis and filters.

5G connectivity

The refresh rate on the Galaxy A52 5G is a fast 120Hz, instead of 90Hz on the A52 and A72. In a press statement, Samsung says the Galaxy A52 5G makes 5G connectivity accessible with “power, hyper-fast speeds and strong performance,” – it will work on any carrier that offers sub-6GHz 5G – slower than mmWave 5G, but more reliable.

With 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage, the Galaxy A52 5G is available in black, violet, white, and blue with a soft haze finish.
