Saudi’s visionary ‘smart city’ project Neom has announced a 5G partnership with stc

 Saudi Telecom Company (stc) – Saudi Arabia’s largest mobile network operator, with more than 17 million subscribers – will create the 5G network infrastructure for the country’s most ambitious project to date: Neom, a smart city which is expected to be completed by 2030, housing a million people, and costing $500 billion.

NEOM Co., the joint-stock company set up to build the new city, announced that its partnership with stc would help create the first “cognitive city”, which will rely on 5G technology.

“Neom’s infrastructure will utilize AI, robotics, and human-machine fusion to deliver greater predictive intelligence and enable faster decision making across all Neom sectors."

5G infrastructure

The 5G infrastructure in Neom will support cutting-edge urban environments,and “ improve the lives of residents and businesses far beyond the capabilities of today’s smart cities”, the company says. And this will make the city one of the most advanced 5G technology networks in the world.

Neom’s 5G infrastructure will also enable numerous 5G use cases such as Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, virtual reality, augmented reality, smart homes, and autonomous vehicles. It will also provide the public safety network for Neom security services.
